The greatest turning point in WWII was when Hitler decided to go to Russia. Adolf Hitler was a very smart and strategic man however his decision to march to Moscow during the winter was possibly his biggest mistake. At this time the German army had almost no resources and were suffering from the extreme conditions. As a result of the weather the army could not march as fast and conquer as much land as expected or needed to even have a chance of reaching and doing damage to Russia. What could of possibly changed the outcome of this march were two things. First Hitler could of sent his army earlier before the winter (if they had not had to bail out Italy) or they could of sent the army later after the winter. Secondly and the most likely to happen as a result of having to help out Italy would of been if they would have marched further south towards the oil fields. If Hitler made the decision to march south he would of been able to take out the Red Army and he would of been able to gather the needed resources to make the trek to Moscow.
This quote by Winston Churchill to me represents and depicts the importance of progress. Progress is absolutely essential when fighting a war, this quote really reveals this. If you are without progression and are constantly evacuating and running away you won't get that win, you won't get were you want to be and in some cases where you need to be. This can also be a strong message to live by, this quote is a very good metaphor to apply to oneself. If you are constantly running away eventually you will get backed into a corner and you will loose. It is important in my opinion and most likely other peoples that perseverance and progress will lead us to accomplishing our goals. We all have our battles to fight, its how we apply ourselves and the effort we make that determines our end result and if we are successful or not.
This was my first time watching this film, and it will not be the last. "Saving Private Ryan" is easily on the top of my list of all time favorites. It has truly changed my perspective on war and the toll it takes not only on families but the brothers that you are fighting with, and the respect they have for one another and their duty as soldiers. I have always known or believe to think i knew that war was awful and horrific however this movie has opened my eyes and shown me what it could of possibly been like to have gone through all that. What stood out to me the most after watching this film was bond between men and the sacrifice that these men would endure for each other and their country. Many of the things they did was out of respect and compassion, they respected their captain and carried out the missions even if they believed them to be "fubar" ( one of my favorite words from the movie) they were loyal and stayed strong. The bond between the small group that went to save Ryan really reached out to me, and I never really thought about how close these men would get and then how hard it would be to keep faith in saving someone you don't know when your best friends, your brothers is killed for one man, however they did it out of respect and demonstrated huge sacrifices throughout the movie and never giving up even when all the odds seem to be against you. |
